Simple syrup is just that…Simple.
We found that adding a few tablespoons of our favorite flavors to plain unsweet iced tea made sipping iced tea a treat.
Here is how we make our simple syrup recipes:
1.We add 8 cups of water to a large stock pot
2. Place on stove top and turn burner to high.
3. Add in 5 cups of sugar – YES, 5 cups 🙂 to the water.
For Lavender Honey Simple Syrup:
Add the following to the above mixture on the stovetop.
4 tablespoons lavender in a muslin tea bag.
After you place the lavender in the sachet, you will want to press it, releasing the scents and essence of lavender. Then place the sachet in the stock pot with water and sugar.
Add in 2 cups of honey into the stockpot.
Allow mixture to come to a boil –
For Orange Spice Simple Syrup:
Add the following to the Water & Sugar stockpot
Rinds from 3 oranges. We use organic oranges as we extracting the essence from the skins. Use a potato peeler to peel the rinds and allow to fall into the stockpot.
Add in 1 tablespoon of whole cloves.
Allow mixture to come to a boil –
For Lemon Basil Simple Syrup:
Add the following into the Water and Sugar stockpot.
Add the peels from 5 lemons and a “bunch” or handful of basil.
Allow mixture to come to a boil –
FOR ALL OF THE ABOVE Recipes, Follow the directions below:
Boil for 3 minutes
Let stand for 1 – 2 hours
Strain through cheesecloth. We used a large 8 cup pyrex measuring bowl and strainer to make pouring as easy as possiable.
Finish by pouring your simple syrup into the jars or bottles you would like to keep them in.
Simple Syrup stays good for about a month or two.
